Nassau Broadcasting switches formats on 870 AM WLVP from Air America Radio to ESPN Radio
After a little more than three years, Nassau Broadcasting ended the Air America Radio format it broadcast on 870 AM WLVP on Friday June 1, 2007 at 6:00am. The station is now 870 ESPN radio.
"It was simply time to put the best product possible on 870 AM WLVP and without question that is ESPN sports radio" said Patrick Collins, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Nassau Broadcasting Maine. ESPN radio is home to Mike and Mike in the Morning and the Dan Patrick Show in the afternoon. 870 ESPN will carry the ESPN radio network 24 hours a day and will also air local high school sports.
Nassau Broadcasting, a privately held firm in Princeton, New Jersey, currently owns and/or operates 53 radio stations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. It is the 15th largest broadcaster in the United States in terms of the number of radio stations it owns. The Company's web site is www.nassaubroadcasting.com.
Back in 2004 WLVP planned to pull the plug on Air America but after so many people called and showed up at a meeting on the subject they promised to keep Air America on the air. WLVP must be run by Republicans who used a trumped up excuse about format change to put ESPN on even thought it is already broadcast by Nassau on a different AM frequency. Perhaps you live outside of Portland Maine area and do not care about this because you still can hear Air America on your dial. When will the plug be pulled in your area? Lets let Nassua know how we feel about censorship of Air America Radio. Here is a link to do so.
